A new career in accounting? Am I too late? Am I asking too much?

We Answered:

Based purely on your question, i think that you will make a good accountant but i am not certain if you quite know what an accountant is exactly so you may just want to research that a little before jumping in (if you havent done so already). I imagine you are still going to be sitting behind a desk with piles of paper but hopefully you might enjoy it a bit more. Its good to hear that you plan to get your CA as this will put you in a good position to get those jobs that it sounds like you are truly eyeing (after a few years hard graft of course). Be sure you are aware of how difficult your first 3 yrs will be as this is when you are paid the least and have every ounce of blood drained from you (but it sounds as though you are used to that challenge). Once you survive this, you come out the other side with your full qualification, a much higher salary and experience that can take you around the world and into any sector of business that you want to be involved in. Your IT skills will also be of huge value to you. As an older graduate, you may find that public sector employers take a shine to you as they often like the look of graduates who will be a bit more settled in the job.

Career Help... What English/Literature career would be best for me?

We Answered:

Your best choice is probably to teach English literature in a well-paying high school. You may have to spend a few years getting experience in a high school with lower pay.

You will need a B.A. in English and in some states a teaching credential which will take an extra year to earn.

Good luck.

Cheap affordable foreign exchange program to Japan?

We Answered:

You would do better to wait until college to go. You can pay through financial aid for it and there is a huge amount of scholarships available through both your own university, the US government, and the Japanese government to help cover any remaining costs. By going through a partner program with your university you'll be guaranteed credit and if you attend a university that teaches Japanese you can brush up on your Japanese for a year or two first before studying abroad.
You don't have to study abroad to look good to colleges. Just stay home, volunteer, and perhaps run a Japan club at your school.
We can't always have what we want, sometimes sacrifices need to be made and plans put off for the future. It's just life.

Can someone tell me all about Thomas A. Edison Career & Technical High School N.Y.?

We Answered:

Well, you can't reapply this year, but you CAN appeal the decision. However, if you live outside of Manhattan, you probably won't get in, even on appeal. But I suppose anything is worth trying if you want it enough.

Here is an article written last year about how to appeal the high school decision. Ignore the dates, since this is from last year, but read the info on how to go about it.

One last thing - you should NEVER put any school on your list that you haven't fully researched, including seeing how hard it is to get there. AND you should only put schools on your list that you actually could see yourself attending, at least if worst came to worst. This is how kids end up in schools they don't like.
