From a practical/financial standpoint, there are a lot more jobs as an electrician and related type jobs such as machinist than in the computer field.

I was looking at newspaper photos of the Minneapolis bridge failure and noticed a lot of rust covered with paint. To me that is like hiding a hole in a wall with toothpaste.

From personal experience I have found that all employers value academic qualifications MUCH higher than experience.

I have paid tax all my adult life. I would happily pay more tax, even maybe 3 times as much as I currently pay, if I would be assured that my children would be guaranteed a university education.

Given that the police are basically forced to do paperwork rather than prevent crime. That the standard of high school qualifications is falling. That most public services are in steep decline. Funding to museums, art galleries, castles and other places of interest keeps being cut thus draining the valuable resource of cultural heritage. And that the NHS is increasingly becoming an institution of bureaucracy rather than medical care. Given these things the one solace that my children may have a MA or a PHD and gain a good income is something I do care passionately about.

So, to be honest, if my kid's ability to have a good education funded by MY TAX CONTRIBUTIONS for the last 20 years or so is removed the I would feel that I had paid all my taxes for NOTHING and move to another country that values the future over the present.
