Russell Said:

If I complete the Diploma of Children Services will I get the occupation as a Childcare Co-ordinator?

We Answered:

This is what I do know, that you many employers will require you to have some sort of experience to take this sort of position on, you will also need to have a current WWC Working With Children's check, this came into legislation in 2006, that all people working with children under the age of 18 must have this (regardless of being a volunteer, part time or full time work), you must also have a current police check and Apply First Aid (Level 2) too.

Because of each state has slightly different rules, it can be a bit confusing knowing what is required of you, but I suggest that you speak to a few of the child care services in your area, and ask them what they had to do, to become a child care coordinator, most are usually very helpful. Certainly get some experience in the field, either volunteer, part time or full time.

I am a qualified Youth & Disability support worker, and I had to have all of the above to work in my field, and I am also a teacher for TAFE, and know that many employers require staff to have had some experience for a year or so, and many of my students must have the WCC, police check and First aid just to do their placement.

Hope this helped a little and good luck and hope you find work in your chosen field
