Vocational Education Programs

Derek Said:

Recommend any appropriate vocational assessment that can be given to students with mild to severe disabilities

We Answered:

Many inventories require at least a fouth grade reading level. I know of two inventories that are reading free: The Reading-Free Vocational Interest Inventory (Becker, 2000) and The Wide Range Interest-Opinion Test (Jastak & Jastak, 1979). These inventories use line drawings to represent employment tasks, so they have a degree of abstraction that may make them unsuitable for some of your students.

Hundreds of career exploration and career assessment programs use video and/or CD-ROM, including Careerware and many others.

You may also want to do a search for Employability Skills Inventories.

I have included a few links you may find useful, and they might lead you to other connections. I hope this is of some help.

what vocational education programs are avaiable for minors?

We Answered:

These vary from highly specialized private schools to federal programs. Start by looking over the information at the site below. Then contact either some of the links listed or your local board of education. Often high school guidance offices have information as well.

Vocational nursing programs?

We Answered:

Pros - cheap education, fast track into an entry-level nursing job, easily transferable to RN programs, ok pay considering you aren't earning a college degree.

Cons - in comparison to RNs, you make a lot less money, do more of what some people consider "the dirty work" with patient care because you aren't trained in many skills that are more complex, fewer job opportunities in many areas of the country, doesn't earn you a degree but usually just a "certificate" or diploma.

IMO, if you're "university" material and you really want to be a nurse, get yourself into an RN program, you'll be better off in the long run.
