Vocational Training School

Todd Said:

Should we have more vocational training options for high school students?

We Answered:

We used to have vocational training. In my school district we had what we called a "career center". It offered a various number of classes during the school day that didn't involve academics. Auto mechanics, machine shop, photography, child care, food service etc. Now the career center is for an accelerated math and science center. I wish school administrators could make more of a mixed curriculum for those who aren't cut out for college. Unfortunately those students may be left behind with the new intense focus on keeping up academically with the rest of the world.

I can't help but add on after I read the other answers. I haven't been out of school that long (22 years) and the focus is now on furthering education for ALL students. Not every student is cut out for, can afford to go to, or has the opportunity to go to college. For a lot, college is just out of the question. It has nothing to do with their drive, being responsible or not wanting to further themselves. It has everything to do with intelligence and or economic environment. BTW, this country's new focus on higher education and it's pushing vocational, hands on manufacturing out of the picture is one of the main reasons for all of our blue collar jobs going over seas along with our entire manufacturing industry. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a carpenter, machinist, heating and cooling guy, or a beautician. Get off of your high horse people! Someone has the do the jobs and I rather they be American's and not some foriegner.

Richard Said:

What's a good vocational school to learn culinary?

We Answered:

This site lists a bunch of culinary schools. You didn't say what state you were looking at, but this list has online schools and schools across the country.

Some of them have student reviews so you can see what the experience was like for others.

Kimberly Said:

where can I find a school that offers licensed vocational training?

We Answered:

Licensed vocational training does not mean much. You first have to ascertain what license you are interested in. Then place the phrase (name of license) =+ name of state or city) + School into a search engine.

Earl Said:

What does it mean when a job application asks if you've had school, business, vocational, or other training?

We Answered:

What they mean is outside of high school. Those are all considered secondary education, that's what they are talking about. Just list if you've gone to any of those types of school.
