It sounds to me like you gain satisfaction from working hard and helping people. You mentioned that you have worked as a youth leader in a church, so I'll take the liberty of answering with a bit of God-talk. (I hope you'll forgive me if this isn't meaningful for you.)

How do you discern what God is calling you to do? Is God calling you to a career in human services like addiction counseling, teaching, or law enforcement? Or is God calling you to pursue a craft where you work with things like airplanes, cars, or art materials?

No matter what craft you're called to, I hope you can treat it as a discipline. Conventional wisdom says that it takes ten thousand hours of practice to master any craft, whether it's counseling, painting, or playing hockey.

Your post makes it sound like you're more interested in people than things. Is that right?

If so, trust God's call and go for it. You don't need to earn the right to work with people by working with things first.
