I'm trying to remember if I found a question similar to yours in New Zeland or India Y!A.
I assure you that the answer was correct and centered, and I suggest you to find it.
I can not answer more adequately.

Tim Said:

So I want to become a psychiatrist, but first I must major in psychology?

We Answered:

To be psychiatrist which is medical doctor you have to be accepted to medical school first

So you will need to take all the prerequisites for medical school it does not generally matter what you major in as long as you have the required course requirements to get into medical school. You can be a art major but you have to have all the classes like Biology, Anat , Chem, Organic Chemistry ,etc

It is preferred to have a natural science degree (biology, chemistry, psychology, sociology, etc) which shows medical schools you are able to handle medical oriented classes but it not required.
Also you will need to take the MCAT

Look online for requirements for medical schools you are interested in or a general synopsis of what most require not all the schools are the same some schools you need a bach. degree other schools you dont.

Once your in medical school you will have to 4 years then from there go into the desired discipline (psychiatry, surgery, cardiology, etc)

good luck
