It is difficult to make a living with an English degree. I know that is what you really enjoy or have a passion for but unfortunately sometimes we have to be realistic. I enjoy and have passion for music but I am glad I made the right choice of majoring in Business because its very broad. Plumbers make good money but I've heard its hard to get into an apprenticeship position.

To be honest, there is a big difference between a community college and some place like Cal, so I'm not sure how much that will help you. What will probably matter will be your SAT scores. If they are strong, they will validate your GPA. If not, they will give the idea that your school wasn't all that good.
