Like most jobs that don't involve wearing a suit and scamming on Wall Street or in a courtroom, being an auto tech has not kept up with inflation as far as income. Whether or not you make enough money depends a lot on what you consider enough money, and where you work, or are able to work. A lot of techs now are struggling to take home 35k a year, and not many are reaching the 50k mark any more.

it might help to know a little .like where the plugs are and how to change oil. but if you have a good boss he will try to show you some things at 16 i dont think a shop owner is going to make you change the crank and cam out in a 350 to make it a383 or rebuild a tranny . we all have to learn some how. but hey this shop exp will help you in school . happy learning
