Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing? We Answered:
First of all, if you earn an Associate Degree in Nursing, you are eligible to take the NCLEX to become an RN, not an LPN/LVN....those are vocational programs that you earn a certificate of completion for....not a college degree.Next, I would recommend you look into a BSN program at a State University. My reasons for this include the fact that most all Associate Degree programs to become an RN have at least a year's wait list to get into the clinical phase. (An Associate Degree program is 2 1/2 years in length. Add that one year (minimum) wait list to that and it's 3 1/2 years....in 4 years you can have a BSN).
Also, there is definitely a trend of moving towards the BSN as the minimum education required to be an RN. There are currently several large hospital systems in the US that require a BSN for all new nurses with no previous RN experience.
