usually people start in their junior year so you're fine to start now!I got my first scholarship (I never applied, it was something I was nominated by a teacher for) and got $1500 through just that.... but you should definitly wait till your senior year to apply for government grants like Pell and cal grants....

Read the fine print on the grant or scholarship application.
