Trade Vocational Schools

Christina Said:

What is the best vocational trade to get into that is in demand and growing...?

We Answered:

I can talk generalities, but you need to know what's in demand *in your region*. That's important. You may want to talk to someplace reputable - if any community colleges in your region offer the trades, start there. Ask them what percentage of their graduates of X trade program end up finding a job in that field within 6 months of graduating. In addition, contact the local unions - they'll tell you what's up.

In general, in the US, the in-demand (and well paying) trades are electrician, HVAC, plumbing, welding, underwater welding (highly dangerous - and not in demand everywhere). Almost all of them require classes, first - usually way less than a year - then an apprenticeship. But most master electricians, for example, make more than most college grads do.

You are female? If so, contact the unions directly. There are sometimes special programs for women interested in the trades. Financial help, etc. So ask.
