Vocational Education Programs

Curtis Said:

anyone go to vocational school AND college at the same time?

We Answered:

There is no restriction on going to two schools at the same time. Actually if you look in UCLA's catalog, they should have a policy on concurrent enrollment. Normally you are supposed to get permission from the registrar's office so that you don't go over the unit restriction. Some people try to overload their classes by attending two schools at the same time. However, if you are not planning to transfer any of the credit from your vocational school, which I do not even think they transfer, you are free to do whatever you want in your own time.

I am pretty sure that you can also get a degree in dental assistance at your CC at the same time. However, if you are on financial aid at UCLA, you will have to keep up with the satisfactory progress requirement by taking enough classes there. Also you will have to pay for CC classes yourself since receiving financial aid at two schools simultaneously is not allowed. One drawback is that you will have to live a "double life", commuting twice to school, paying tuition twice, you get the point.

Why do you want a vocational degree? I don't think it will help you get into a dental school.

Eileen Said:

I am considering dropping out of my four-year college and doing something that requires less education...?

We Answered:

Maybe you should take classes at interest you. I say this because when I started out in college I HATED my classes and thus hated school, but then I switched major and had the most fulfilling four years of my life. I would also advise that you give a little time before settling on a career path. College is a great time to tinker around, take random electives, and discover what else could be of interest to you.
Especially if you are already enrolled, you don't want to drop out and have the time and money you've already put in go to waste.

Good luck!
