I live in Florida, and the basic economics course is required, but there are some other classes that are offered like food prep and home economics (finding an apartment, sewing, typing a resume, etc.) that are optional. I do believe that vocational courses should be mandatory because they really help a new adult get an understanding of the economy and how the world works, which helps if you want to invest in the stock market or buy a home.
