Taking different courses generally won't affect the admissions decisions of schools much. Every college has slightly different course requirements and you should call or email the schools you're interested in to find out their requirements and the applicability of your school's courses to the colleges' curricula.

As far as the choice of college goes, you should determine the costs of college and decide whether the difference in price is worth it to you and your family. Generally, going to a school on the mainland is probably a better option for you if you're going to work here, though.
