Willard Said:

Which is better, Chicopee High or Chicopee Comp? (MA)?

We Answered:

The answer to this question will depend on what you want from high school. Do you want to go on to university? Do you want to go to tech college and get a trade? One will help you more with one and the other more with the other.
You also need to consider the schools and their standards. Do some work by asking people what their perceptions of the schools are. Talk to employers and find out what they think of the students from both for potential employees and part time employees.
Most important, pray and ask God for wisdom. He knows what is best for you and has your best interests at heart..

pre-nursing major and medical assisting (clinical)?

We Answered:

Forget the phlebotomy certificate--many MA programs give you one in the program. The MA class content and the nursing content will overlap on areas such as anatomy, physiology and medical pathology--so you will get reinforcement. In the MA program you will also learn about giving drugs, injections, ear washes, sterilizing equipment, taking vitals, eye exams, ear exams, setting up sterile trays, assisting with procedures etc--all this will be highly useful as a nursing student (MAs learn more procedures than actual patient care because they usually work in areas to assist the MD, not in pt care). You will also learn front office skills which would be helpful if you went to work in a Doc's office.

I personally think you could probably do this as a freshman, because your first 2 years of "pre-nursing" are all CSU general education requirements (not core nursing classes) and you could take a lighter load while you are in the MA program. You would just need to be focused; but its not like you are doing 2 entirely different fields. It is even beneficial to see anatomy, physiology & pathology several times over to really get it to stick & make sense, And you can work as little as 1 day a week as an MA if you can find it (Kaiser, for example uses many part time & on-call MAs).

You can always drip out of the MA program if you get overwhelmed. the phlebotomy certif at $2000 ids too expensive when you factor the money you would make at it & the fact that you will get one as an MA and certainly as a RN.
