Tech School Programs
Mary Said:
Hello, does anyone know the difference in Cardiovascualr Tech and Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Tech programs? We Answered:
Cardiovascular Techs normally work in invasive procedures such as Cath Labs, Open Heart Surgery, Intensive Care, etc.Non-Invasive Techs are the EKG Techs, Echocardiography, and Pulmonary Function Testing Techs usually work in clinics or Internal Medicine Clinics.
The types of programs vary as does the training. There are several good cardiovascular programs. You can google to find where these programs are located.
I went through the Navy Cardiopulmonary Program at Bethesda, Maryland, We were taught to work in Open Heart, Cath Labs, Internal Medicine, Respiratory Therapy, Blood Gas Labs, Intensive Care, Emergency Room, Critical Care Units, and Pulmonary Function.
It was the most extensive program anywhere, To day it is a Cardiovascular Program concentrating on only heart disease and testing criteria. The field is exciting and rewarding. The money depends on the area but is usually in the 50,000+ range.
Good luck in your hunt. I recommend you go to your local hospital (teaching are best) and talk to people working in these areas.

What schools have the best veterinary tech or nursing programs? We Answered:
I attended and recently graduated from Argosy University in Eagan, Minnesota. Great program, very hands on. Unfortunately you have to leave the beautiful weather of California. Check out there website at www.argosy.edu and choose the Twin Cities campus (the only one that has the vet tech program). I do recommend getting generals done at a community college by your home because tuition is a little pricy there. Good luck!Maxine Said:

Does anyone know an ultrasound tech school around Philadelphia, PA?We Answered:
When thinking about entering an ultrasound program, you need not be concerned so much about certificate vs. degree. What is important is that you go to an ACCREDITED program, whether it is college or hospital based. An accredited program allows you to take your registry (licensing) exams upon graduation. Once you get licensed, you will never be asked about your schooling again. An employer does not care what route you take to get licensed, they just want you to have that license.Don't waste your time or money on a NON-accredited program. Upon completion and graduation from a NON-accredited program, you must work in the field of sonography for a full year prior to taking your licensing examinations. But, you will have a hard time finding an employer to hire you, unless you are licensed.
I would suggest you observe an imaging department to get an idea of what ultrasonographers do daily. There is much more to it than scanning pregnant women. Most people have no idea how much is involved in this career!
You can find a list of accredited schools in your area, by searching "diagnostic medical sonography" and your state at the following site. There are links provided for each program, which will give you additional information (including course duration):
http://www.caahep.org/Find_An_Accredited…
The accredited u/s programs, in PA, are:
Community College of Allegheny County - Boyce Campus - Monroeville
Crozer-Chester Medical Center (Keystone) - Upland
Great Lakes Institute of Technology - Erie
Harrisburg Area Community College-Harrisburg Campus - Harrisburg
Lackawanna College - Scranton
Lancaster General College of Nursing and Health Sciences - Lancaster
Misericordia University - Dallas
Northampton Community College - Bethlehem
Thomas Jefferson University - Philadelphia
Western School of Health and Business Careers-Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh
Many people, myself included, go to school to become a radiologic technologist, before continuing to ultrasound school. In fact, it can be difficult to get into u/s school without the RT license. There are many more choices for schools for x-ray in most states. You can find them here, by searching “radiography“ and your state:
http://www.jrcert.org/cert/Search.jsp
The pay for ultrasound technologists will vary, depending on experience and geographical location. The American Society of Radiologic Technologists just did a large salary survey, in 2007. You can see how much a RT and/or ultrasound technologist averaged, per year, in your state here:

How hard are the Vet Tech 2 year schooling programs? We Answered:
You are supposed to be licensed; however, many state boards have been discussing the fact that many vets hire people who have no training and label them as vet techs- this is a problem for licensed vet techs because they are getting unpaid due to the fact that vets are hiring untrained people and paying them less than licensed vet techs and licensed vet techs do not get enough credit considering this. I am currently doing my 2 year schooling to become a vet tech. I am doing it through Penn Foster College (www.pennfostercollege.com) and it is going very well so far. They are nationally and state accredited which is very good. Oh and my state also requires you to take a test to become licensed after finishing your 2 year schooling.
