Vocational Education Schools

Sheila Said:

How much has your pre-college or vocational education shaped your political views?

We Answered:

Not much. I graduated from a public high school in Massachusetts in 1984 and, that fall, voted for a Republican. I would say that my college (both public and private) studies, especially in political science, philosophy, and history shaped my political views more than my primary education. I lean libertarian now.

Tracy Said:

Why is vocational education not implemented properly in senior secondary schools?

We Answered:

I think the political interference in the education sector.

We want no unemployment in our country, All people want to do employment according to their aptitudes.

Viola Said:

should public schools provide an alternative vocational path of education?

We Answered:

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, & Yes!
Not everyone is college-bound, nor should they be. Our schools have an obligation to teach students the skills they will need to survive in this economy. They need a curriculum for welding, carpentry, auto mechanics, etc.
I'm a mother of 2 sons-one who chose not to go to college. He's 25 & has been with the same pest control company for almost 5 yrs. He was, after only one year, the top salesperson in their office, although he is by far the youngest. He continues to hold that status due to his work ethic. He has a family & is the most responsible parent you could imagine. My other son is 22 & on scholarship at college from our state's high school for the most gifted & talented. All graduates of that school receive this scholarship, regardless of family income. He's now a biochem major. In Dec. of this year, he'll receive his first 2 degrees, one in each area. He'll then continue to grad school to earn his PhD's in these subjects. I am extraordinarily proud of both of my sons. Both fields are of importance and both should be treated as such. My younger son's curriculum was "college prep". Schools should prepare students for the other careers they might take in life.
