Ideas for a job...or vocational school courses......we need some ideas from you!!! Please help....?

We Answered:

I spent 35 years as a traveling professional engineering/designer.
From coast to coast, border to border.

On several years, topped six digits
I don't have a degree.

Modern design is done on the computer.

There is a school in Huntsville Alabama that teaches 3-D computer modeling, and jobs range from $25 an hour for beginners, to $70 for experienced (4 or 5 years).

I have a friend(s). Jim and Lisa travel, going from job to job (we're called job shoppers)

Together they can drag down $250,000 a year or more.

They very seldom work more than 6 or 8 months a year. They own a large piece of the Poconos (summer home) and a couple of condo's in the sunny parts of Florida and Texas (winter homes)

Its the ideal career for a couple, where both are in demand, and you can pick and choose where you want to go.

A job, paying say $40 an hour, and almost every job requires overtime (thats $60 per hour, or $100 double and a half for holidays)

So 40 x 40 = $1600 a week (x 2 if you both are working $3200 a week)
Stack on 20 hours of of O.T. 20 x 60 =$1200

$1200 = $1600 = $2800 a week (x2 = $5600 a week)

I just turned down a job in both Houston and greenville S.C. paying $70 straight time. The average job runs from 4 months to (?) years.

So if I had only stayed 16 weeks 16 x 2800 =$44,800
Remember, most jobs have overtime.

I can't think of any career that can present this kind of money, with as litttle formal education. You will learn the ropes, technical shortcuts, etc.

It's very much like playing the X-box.

Good luck...if you want the name of the school, drop me a line.

Marjorie Said:

I am currently in vocational school and I need to find a temp. job to pay for bills, etc Neone have suggestion

We Answered:

The fastest growing industry today is SECURITY. And, there is a huge demand for security workers (part-time and full-time).

I live in Illinois and last summer my then 18 year old son took a 3-day (20 hour) basic security class and was immediately hired by a security firm. He went from a minimum wage part-time (fast food) job to making $12/hour security job. My son is now in college and working a part-time security job which helps pay his rent/bills.

One more thing, if you're going to be a fire-fighter, basic security training may be a plus for your fire-fighting training...it covers a lot of issues.

Jerome Said:

vocational school?

We Answered:

Cosmetology is more than just a vocation, but a Vocational School is a strong way to start rather than traditional high school. There are Cosmetology schools that are quite good, just depends on where you want to go.

Cecil Said:

Is an electronics certificate from a vocational school enough to get a job in electronics?

We Answered:

If you mean a school like ITT tech then it is not much better then a high school diploma.

Most electronics techs do not have anything above a high school education. They test and assemble electronics.

Designing electronics is usually left to engineers.

Your best bet is the A.S. degree. You can get your foot in the door and transfer most of the credit to a university if you want to continue on to an engineering degree. A degree from ITT tech or similar company will not be transferable or help out much with a job search.

Ricky Said:

Am I consider high school or vocational school for job application?

We Answered:

Either look up your school on the internet
or if you have a prospectus it should mention what type of school it is
both should give you the answer

Good Luck!
