Career And Vocational Education

Karen Said:

I have a Career dilemma.?

We Answered:

If you enjoy teaching and don't really want to go through the years of school, I suggest try teaching english in another country. There is a demand for it and you can get to travel and taste what it's like to be a teacher right away. I recommend Japan because it's such a cool country. If you don't like it, you get to say "I traveled to japan, made some money, and decided i don't want to teach". Japanese students maybe different from kids in America though. Kids there are more respectful and eager to learn. American education is really babysitting.

Stacey Said:

Why do some people complain that Walmart doesn't pay enough to support a family?

We Answered:

People don't understand supply and demand - yes, it applies to the job market too.

Those who are currently employed by Walmart and are hopeful that Walmart is somehow forced to raise their wages don't get it. If Walmart were to raise wages, it would then be a more desirable position, and someone more qualified would get it.

Right now Walmart may pay $8/hr for a high school drop out with no special skills to speak of. Why? Because that's the best person that wanted the job for that pay. You raise that to $10/hr and now you get some college students interested. Raise it a bit further to $13/hr or so and you get some people with 10+ years of experience in retail. Raise it to $60/hr and I might even consider working there.

That being said, the people who work at Walmart probably haven't been taught the laws of economics, so it's not hard to understand that they are complaining.
