Trade School Careers

Jon Said:

What will an employer value most a trade school or community college graduate?

We Answered:

It really depends on what segment of criminal justice you want to pursue.

Let it first be known that training and vocational schools are designed to give students a set of proper skills but do not necessarily concentrate on outside education. Community colleges, on the other hand, will require that in addition to courses in criminal justice, students will have to take core education courses such as history, math, English and science.

With that said, most people who are interested in the criminal justice field usually move on to work for police departments or correctional institutions. If you want to be a police officer on the state or local level (or want to work in the administration department), attending a vocational school will suffice. While you'll most likely receive some additional on-the-job training, employers will know that because you attended a training school that you are well versed in the criminal justice system, including its political, social and economic components.

However, if you aspire to be a fish and game warden, a correctional officer or jailer, or want to be employed by a Federal agency, a degree from a community college is favored. In fact, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, most institutions are starting to mandate a 4-year bachelor's degree for entry-level positions. Meaning attending a 2-year community college might not be enough. However most local facilities will still accept associate-degree holders, the Bureau assures. Other job opportunities for criminal justice associate degree holders include being employed as a private security guard.

Terrence Said:

What are some decent careers that are relatively quick to train or school for?

We Answered:

Anything in the medical field. X-ray technicians do well (my buddy makes $80k a year) and don't have to deal with the same level of yuck factor that nurses do.
Dental techs also do ok for themselves. If you are good at handicrafts, it can be a fun job (they make prosthetic teeth and or retainers and stuff).
It really depends on what you like to do.

What is the best job to go to Trade school for?.....?

We Answered:

look into radiography (x-ray tech) its a 2 year program great job and will open many many doors for you.. you can then do CT, MRI, Mammography without going to more school they will train you at your job to do it. Healthcare is a great field to get into you will always have oppurtunity for overtime & growth and specialize into many different areas.. (they make pretty decent money too!!)

Clara Said:

Trade School?

We Answered:

No you wouldn't be an electrician. You would probably train to be an electrician helper. I would go to college and chose the career you really want. Believe me it took me many options before I realized I wanted to be a nurse and that is what I went for. Dont just settle for a job that can make you money. Settle for a job you enjoy doing.

Erika Said:

trade school and career?

We Answered:

Totally depends on where you live. In some states gunsmith and knife smith are only learned from masters who are working and you hook up with them to learn the trade. Electrician, you go to school, get certified, then do an apprenticeship to get in a union. You start as an apprentice, move up to junior and so on. It takes some time to reach the level where you are making money.
